I have to mention Fashion Night Out, the event sponsored by VOGUE to promote shopping and consumer confidence. I am slightly disappointed. Although I think tonight will be a big hit, I don’t understand why stores in smaller cities aren’t participating. We certainly don’t have an entire street dedicated to clothing stores in Ohio, but why couldn’t malls stay open late to promote this effort? If they really were concerned with promoting consumer confidence they would have reached out to small cities who were hit the hardest. Even if people were still nervous about the economy, it would give shoppers a chance for a night out, at little cost, that would give the people reason to trust in retailers and go back when the economy does start to get better.
