The smoking slipper, usually reserved for old rich men who have a butler and a couple horses, is having a bit of a moment. It started in spring and it’s clear now that the aristocratic flat is moving right on into fall. The charmingly disarming prints and stately design have me obsessed. The more eccentric the better. Think Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. I bet the pink ones taste like snozberries.

Ah! This dress. One of my most treasured finds this summer. It is from the MNG by Mango for JC Penny line, which by the way was surprisingly good. The perfect day dress for baby showers and bridal showers. For a more casual wedding this dress has legs. Literally. The puckered shoulders and key hole are great details and who doesn’t love stripes? I hope you all found a great day dress you fell in love with this summer. Do tell us about it!

I’m getting to that point when everything in my summer wardrobe is starting to feel blah and old. Introduce some of my lesser worn wardrobe items. This polka dot blouse is one such item. It’s a little too big so I have a hard time styling it. I decided to deploy a fall trend — mixing prints — and at the same time hide the bagginess of this blouse with this new striped cardigan I picked up at the Maxx. I originally pictured this outfit with colorful skinny pants, but when I tried it with these navy blue trousers, I ended up liking the way the different blues looked together.
In other news, I have been studying for my GMAT and relearning math skills I haven’t used in a good 6-7 years. Yay for being a writer!
Like I said in my last post, we went to the Vintage Car Show in Pittsburgh on Saturday. I wasn’t sure if I’d like it. I am not exactly prone to car talk.
The atmosphere and people were much different than what I would have expected. People set up wine and cheese picnics and watched the Grand Prix race. Some people even brought champagne. There were prizes for the best cars in certain categories.
While waiting in what would have been a terribly long line for beer, the vendor took pity on us and gave us free beers and souvenir glasses. We finished our beers as we perused the show. There were also delicious food stands with Italian sausage, funnel cake and lemonade.
The German and British cars were by far my favorite. I am surprised to say that I really liked it. Next year I want to pack my own wine and cheese picnic to watch the Grand Prix.

Doesn’t this rainy weather make you want to curl up on the couch for a marathon of Real Housewives (fill in your own favorite season/location)? Instead we are bravely heading to the Pirates game. That is if it isn’t rained out. Then tomorrow we are going to a vintage car show and to the movies for the Dark Night Rises. What are your plans?
H&M blazer / J.Crew dress and necklace / Nine West Shoes / Ray Ban Wayfarers (purchased with Amazon gift card) Just threw together some wardrobe staples that I have been wearing all summer. To make this look a little different I belted the blazer and tucked my statement necklace in as well.
