Camel and red ambitions

I was trying to figure out what my big camel and red moment would be (because I have been taunted with hundreds of images of this beautiful combo, See example), when I remembered that I bought this camel poncho earlier this fall, and I have had this bold print skirt since my days as a sales associate at Loft. I am mad that I didn’t think of my particular creation sooner. I really like that the poncho itself is evocative of the old west and the bright print skirt is probably more appropriate for a garden tea party. Despite their contrasting purposes, I think they look oddly good together. And I think the wine colored boots, which can go with either piece separately, helped tie the look together.

The good, the bad, and the ugly: A poncho tale

I don’t know who rocked a poncho more fiercely than Clint Eastwood in his series of “Spaghetti Westerns”. If you don’t believe me check it out. But I don’t think Clint was as fierce as me as I scooped up one of the very last of the $20 camel ponchos at H&M. The woman at the store told me they were selling out like hotcakes. I thought this was some kind of ploy to make me feel a more immediate need to purchase. But I heard from other sources that a stock of 20 ponchos had dwindled before lunch. This is one of those infrequent moments when one of the several trendy items H&M decides to carry becomes a highly coveted item. The H&M by me sold out and didn’t receive more in their most recent shipment so I think the phenomenon is over. I did see some on Ebay. They were selling for around $80. I am never one of those people who sees something advertised and then runs out to get it. I just happened to be shopping that day. It was the right timing. But I have to say it was meant to be. I had wanted a camel poncho for a while now, but didn’t think I was going to find one in my price range until I saw this beauty. So I am going to revel in my shopping expertise and good luck just this one time and know that next time, I will probably be one of those sad people looking at the store associate asking, “Are you sure you don’t have any more in the back?”.

On a more personal note and Happy Friday!

So I would like to share a personal tidbit about myself. The boyfriend and I have been in a long-distance relationship for close to 2 years. You may have noticed that because I am always going to visit him on the weekends. So this happens to be one of our off weekends when we catch up on errands and whatnot. I still miss him terribly the weekends we are off, but it is nice to not be traveling and just relax. I don’t know if anyone out there is in a similar situation, but I have to say it’s not that bad. We have managed pretty well actually. And for all of you who do get to see your boyfriend or girlfriend everyday that’s great. But if you don’t, you may understand that there is something very romantic and exciting about not seeing each other for so long. We usually only go two weeks, but at the end of every two week period, I always have something to look forward to. We always make the best of the time we spend together so those weekends are always full of activities. And most important, when we do finally see each other we are both so excited, I feel like we are at our very best. I do look forward to a time when we live closer. But right now we still have a lot of freedom to be young and pursue our separate career goals, which is amazing. I feel very lucky in that regard. I definitely tend to look at the silver lining of most situations. I don’t know why, but I just felt like sharing. Maybe I am in such a mushy mood because I have been checking the blog le love too much. But seriously is there a situation that you are in that isn’t completely ideal, but you make the best of?

I hope you enjoy your weekends and these links:
