Fall Hat and Olive Tunic

Details: Jane Dress (Similar) / Pavement Hat / Old Navy Boots / H&M Necklace

Hello all! I hope you had a wonderful and very filling Thanksgiving. Mine was especially relaxing this year so I’m thankful for that. And the food was ah-mah-zing. I think my favorite dish this year was my sister’s cheesy potatoes. I had to keep going back for more. I actually wore this dress for Thanksgiving, but styled it here for work with this asymmetrical cardigan to stay warm while in the office. I also didn’t wear the hat to work, but wore it for Thanksgiving so posed with it here.

I got the dress on a website called Jane.com. They feature daily deals from various boutiques and the prices are really good. This particular dress isn’t available anymore, but they have many more cute dresses. They carry a variety of on-trend clothes, accessories, home decor and products for babies and kids. I am definitely going to shop from them again, especially when I am looking for a specific trend, but don’t want to spend too much. What sites do you shop on? Did you score any great Black Friday or Cyber Monday deals?

Leopard Print Heels

Jennifer and Grace Blouse via T.J. Maxx  / J.Crew Factory Skirt and Necklace / Sole Society Desi Pump via Nordstrom / Gap Cardigan

I bought a pair of leopard print heels. That may sound incredibly cliche and very fashion blogger-esque, but I promise I had good reason. I was on the mission for the perfect she for fall. It needed to compliment the various colors in my wardrobe from the brightest pinks to the most steady navys. It also needed to be comfortable and stylish. A neutral shoe of some sort was what I needed, but I didn’t want to go too pale to harken back to summer.

At first I was not convinced that the leopard print would go with most of my outfits, but after I started to think about it, it made sense. Leopard print is great for pattern mixing and combines two neutrals — black and tan — into one, giving it the ultimate versatility.

I first tried the he Juli version of this shoe, which is wedge. It was two narrow in the toes so I tried the Desi in a kitten heel instead. That turned out to be much better. I am hoping that these Sole Society shoes stand the test of time because I am already obsessed with them. They look just as perfect with a skinny leg pant as they do with a really loud skirt.

In case you missed it, here is the news segment that I was on to discuss fall fashion and promote the blogger panel discussion this Saturday. Online Style: Blogging Local Fashion takes place at 10:30 a.m. at Nexus Cafe downtown. You can purchase tickets here and save $4 when you use promo code: COSMOCLE. As you can see I was joined by my fellow bloggers, Allison from Fashionably Cleveland, Dina from Dina’s Days and Jessica from the Midwest Muse. Thanks so much to Fox 8 News for everything! We had a great time and really appreciate the press.

After the jump I fill you in on what it was like to be on a live news show.

I had never been on the news before (not counting that time for school choir), and I wasn’t sure what to expect. The Fox 8 anchors and staff were refreshingly nice and down to earth. It was so cool to watch them go through the motions of putting on a morning news show like it was any other job. Everyone was surprisingly calm. I don’t know why, but I had this image of a bunch of people running around behind the scenes to get everything done. It was much more seamless than I expected.

When we arrived, we were ushered into the green room where we could touch up our hair or make up. As the anchors delivered the news, we were on the other half of the stage being shown where we would be sitting, and in what order, and what questions to expect when it was time for our segment. Then we were “mic’d up” as they call it. While we were waiting to go on, they filmed some live teasers of us standing and waving or just standing and posing. It felt really funny to stand there and pose into the camera. Luckily we all have had a little practice posing.

When it came time for our segment, I thought I was going to be really nervous, but everything happened so quickly I didn’t have time to be nervous. It helped that our news anchor, Kristi Capel, was joking around with us before we went on and made us all feel really comfortable. I have to say being on live television was just plain fun. It was so cool to meet Wayne Dawson, the news anchor I have been watching since I was a little girl.

Maxi skirts for Fall

I fell in love with the maxi dress as a summer staple, and now I absolutely adore maxi skirts for this time of year. They go hand in hand with the romance and richness of fall, especially the velvet one. Skirts like the one from the Fall 2010 runway of Marc Jacobs and the brown and black dress in the streetstyle shot make me want to trapse around in long skirts and pretty dresses all the time. Wearing a blazer with one of these skirts would be such a chic look for work, while wearing a chunky knit or luxe sweater would be the perfect off-kilter, Alexa Chung-esque look.

Alexa Chung for Madwell

Moving back to the current weather season, Fall (almost). Have you all heard of Alexa Chung? She is the UK-transplant turned MTV host, turned designer for the line Madwell. Her line for Madwell just launched and it has me excited for fall dressing: tights under shorts, chunky sweaters, long skirts, cute coats, and a hello bat t-shirt dress. What more could you need?
