2015 Goodwill Good Style Show Recap

The Goodwill Good Style Fashion Show was a blast from beginning to end. If you haven’t been following, every year Goodwill gives me and fellow bloggers money to purchase and style outfits from Goodwill that are worn for a runway show.

My theme this year was “Cleveland in Bloom”. With all of the new and exciting things happening in Cleveland lately, I felt like it was the right moment to celebrate the city’s renaissance with the vibrant colors and patterns of spring. The picture above is of two of my fabulous models Kali and Soul. Follow the jump to see more looks from the show!

I was so lucky to have my friends from college modeling in the show. It made hair and makeup and cocktail hour that much more fun. I was also happy to have my parents and both sisters in tow. They did so much to help including my mom hemming the striped top below as well as being in the audience to support me.

Models walked down the runway to Jungle Drum by Emiliana Torrini followed by Soft Shock by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Hair and makeup was kept natural to complement the already beautiful models. The flower pins were all hand made.

I wore a simple black dress with a handmade floral pin.

At the end of the night, we had to take a look at the view outside of Windows on the River. And just because it is just too funny not to share, here is a picture of me strutting my stuff down the runway. Hot stuff, right?

Men’s Style: Goodwill

Congratulations to Kelly who won the tickets to the Goodwill Good Style Fashion Show!

I’ve been back to Goodwill a few more times since my first shopping trip for the show. My biggest challenge so far has been trying to find a “modern” pair of men’s pants in both the right length and waist size.

My friend who is modeling in the show was very patient with me as I texted him pictures of men’s pants from the Goodwill dressing room. Our conversations went like this:

Me: “Do you think this pant leg looks a little wide?”
My Friend: “Don’t you think with the recent trend in slim leg pants?”

Let’s just say the pants I was asking him about were not very stylish.

Luckily, I found a pair of pants that I think have a modern look and are the right size. After sharing the pants saga with my boyfriend, he suggested enlisting the help of a tailor. Find a pair of pants that fit in the waist — a tailor can’t make pants bigger — and have them taken in or hemmed. Lesson learned!

What tricks have you learned for shopping at Goodwill?

Working on the Goodwill Good Style Fashion Show inspires me every year. After shopping for the show, I always come away realizing how much I could be saving on clothing by shopping at Goodwill. You may not always get exactly what you want, but if you put in the time and have a little patience you can find some real gems in the racks of your local Goodwill. You have to be willing to see the potential in something.

This sweater I am wearing was found while shopping for the show one year. It’s a size large from J.Crew. Now normally I would not fit into a size large, but I couldn’t help but notice that it looked a little small so I tried it on. It fit great. Clearly someone had washed the sweater and shrunk it, which is why it was sitting at a Goodwill. Besides the fact that the sweater is in great condition and was very inexpensive, it feels like I have something very unique in my closet. It’s something I wear all the time.

Do you shop at Goodwill? If so, what was your best find?

Shopping Trip 1: Goodwill Good Style Fashion Show

I made my first trip to shop for the Goodwill Good Style Fashion Show this past weekend. One of my favorite stores to shop at is the one located in Robinson here in Pittsburgh. It always seems to have fresh new arrivals and current styles. I think I made out pretty well. I only spent about $60 and was able to find a lot of good statement pieces to start with. The things I typically gravitate toward are bright colors, good patterns and classic shapes. I had some ideas about how I would pair the items that I bought so far, but as I look at them new combinations keep happening in my mind.

I hope you can make it to the show to see the final looks. The show takes place at Windows on the River in Cleveland on Thursday, May 7 at 6 p.m.  Tickets for the Goodwill Good Style Fashion Show can be purchased at Living Social for a discounted price of $30. In addition, you can enter to win 2 tickets here on my blog. There are three easy ways to enter to win:

Love Cleveland: Goodwill Good Style Fashion Show

Close to three years ago, I decided that I needed a change of scenery. I had never lived outside of Cleveland and had never really lived on my own —not counting college. Also, I was looking for a new job that would be challenging and fulfilling and that would put me on a career path I would be happy with. I job searched in many different cities, but I inevitably chose Pittsburgh, where I found a job I can sincerely say I love. That job has lead me down the road of pursuing my MBA, and I have to say I could not be happier with everything so far.

As far as cities go, Pittsburgh rates pretty high on my list. I know it sounds like treason coming from a Clevelander, but Pittsburgh has many of the same features I love about Cleveland. That being said, there are still little things that I miss terribly about Cleveland.  The crowds for the feast at Little Italy, wandering the art museum for hours, perusing the west side market and looking at the lights on East 4th street — to name a few. That is why this year, for the Goodwill Good Style Fashion Show, I am letting the city I love inspire my runway show. Using my $125 gift card to Goodwill, I will be interpreting spring trends inspired by the many places I love in Cleveland.

If you are interested in attending the show, here is all of the info. It’s going to be a great show this year! I hope to see you there!

The show takes place on Thursday, May 8 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Windows on the River. I am giving away 2 pairs of tickets to 1 reader.

Good Style Fitting and Winner

This past weekend I went home to see my dad’s play, Deathtrap, being performed for the rest of the month of April at the East Cleveland Theater. I also was able to squeeze in a fitting with my models for the Goodwill Good Style Fashion Show. Above is a little preview —— lots of stripes, flower prints and polka dots.

The winner of two tickets to the show is Rachel of CLEFashionista. Congrats! Thank you all for entering. If you still need tickets, go to living social to get 50% off your ticket.

Goodwill Good Style Fashion Show & Giveaway

Since beginning the Cosmopolitan Clevelander, I have continuously preached that good style does not need to come at the expense of your financial stability. Good fashion sense and an open mind can take you just as far as a bottomless bank account. You probably all have some crazy affordable items that you scored at Goodwill. See one of my favorite blouses above.

Well Goodwill feels the same way, which is why they have asked me and 7 other bloggers to participate in their Good Style Fashion Show on Thursday, May 9, from 6 to 9 p.m.  at Windows on the River and Cleveland Aquarium.

Each runway show will consist of looks bought at Goodwill. The show also features a cocktail hour, which is a great opportunity to peruse the new Cleveland aquarium, Silent Auction and Pop-Up Boutique. Everyone leaves the show with a gift bag filled with “high-end goodies.”

If that’s not enough, check out the blogs of these lovely ladies. These are the 7 other bloggers participating in the runway show and just by looking at their blogs you can see that they are chock full of fashion inspiration. So come see the show, enjoy a cocktail, get dressed up and get inspired.
