We are officially in the thick of it! Parties, cookie exchanges, and white elephants galore! We’ve already been to a few parties so far and have a few more to go. For a lot of these gatherings, I’m excited to say I’ve found the perfect low-key yet chic green sweater. It’s a wrap style that has the most romantic v-neck and is in the perfect shade of dark green. I’ve paired it with black jeans to match its sophisticated look and added pops of interest with my leopard print flats and glitzy necklace. In addition to being super stylish, it’s really cozy and I can’t wait to wear it for Christmas and beyond. What are you wearing to your holiday shindigs?
I can’t believe it’s almost Thanksgiving. Soon we’ll be mashing the potatoes, slicing the turkey, and Reddi Whipping the pie while watching giant cartoon characters float through New York City on TV. Thanksgiving is starting to become one of my favorite holidays because of its simple premise: gathering for a good meal with the people you love most and being thankful. That’s it and I love it. In my opinion, there is no better way to be. I love celebrating and appreciating my gracious hosts by wearing a thoughtfully put together outfit befitting the occasion. To help make your holiday a special one, I’ve put together three outfit ideas from casual to dressy that will hopefully inspire your ensemble. Cheers to being grateful with the ones you love!
Outfit Idea #1: Dressy Top / Jeans / Pumps / Chunky Necklace
This is likely what I will be wearing since it’s pretty casual at my aunt’s house. It’s just relaxing on the couch and eating really good food all day. I love the idea of elevating a pair of jeans with a statement blouse like this one.
Outfit Idea #2: Chambray Top / Black Skirt / Loafers / Chunky Necklace
This is a good option if you’re going to someone’s house for Thanksgiving for the first time and you’re not sure of the dress code. It’s dressy but not overly so.
Outfit Idea 3: Plaid Scarf / Black Dress / Riding Boots
I love this look for a dressier dinner. You could easily wear this with black heels instead of riding boots if it’s really dressy.

I rang in the New Year like any style blogger, human being and woman of 2015 should: in gold sequin leggings. I know New Year’s Eve is old news, but that line just sounded good. And it’s true! We attended the Girl Talk concert here in Pittsburgh on an unusually frigid New Year’s Eve night and I have to say these leggings stole the show. Many concert goers told me so … or something to that affect.
When I first received these pants for my birthday in July, my feelings were of both elation and panic. Elation because there was nothing my heart desired more than a pair of gold sequin leggings. Major props to the boyfriend for finding these pants via the Google machine. Panic because I thought I lacked the guts to pull of this aberration of fashion. I quickly realized that was crazy talk! My advice to you for feeling more comfortable wearing gold sequin leggings is as follows.
- Wear Them Comfortably – I don’t judge anyone who wears leggings as pants, but that is one thing I am not comfortable with. And I am certainly not going to feel comfortable wearing leggings as pants if they have gold sequins on them. So I made sure to layer a longer sweater over them. Wear them with whatever makes you feel comfortable.
- Choose a Good Color Scheme – Choosing the right color scheme will help make the whole outfit look under control. I’m sure you’ve heard the expression, “Don’t let the outfit wear you.” It would be very easy for that to happen with gold sequin leggings. I imagine these leggings would look good with emerald and black, cream and black, cream and pink, and pink and black. I am sure there are other combinations, but I think the key is keeping the scheme relatively simple.
- Mix in Casual Elements – One of the things I love about this look is that it mixes the dressy gold sequin, the sporty cut of the leggings and the casual sweater to make an understated look. It also lets the leggings be the center of attention instead of having elements that are competing for attention. This type of look is created all the time by Jenna Lyons who just masters casual cool.
Good luck in your gold sequin legging adventures!
