Hello! How is your week going? We’ve busy with wedding planning. We’re at the phase where we’re searching for a venue, which is fun but also stressful. There are so many little details to consider about each place and each one is different. And to make matters worse, our schedules don’t really line up this time of year. My fiancé is a coach for a high school spring sport, so most of his free time is occupied by that. I know whatever we decide will be beautiful. I just need to let the process unfold. Despite the craziness, I just had to pop in and share this dress with you! It’s less than $50, but looks so much more expensive. It has a great fit and the maxi style is so cute for spring, especially for those iffy weather days. I wore it with a jean jacket for a baby shower over the weekend and felt perfectly put together. This dress is not online, but I was able to find it in store at H&M.

Summer Work Outfit: Maxi Dress with a Blazer

As we start yet another new month, the end of summer feels near. Now is the time to get as much out of the warm weather as possible (even though I can’t wait for fall!!!). For me this means trying to wear as many dresses as possible. Soon I will long for the days when I didn’t have to wear pants. I love to change up a maxi dress for work by throwing on a blazer. I especially love that this dress is actually backless, but because of the high-neck front can be worn in different ways. The pattern lends itself to both a bohemian flair, but also a put together look.

Casual Friday Maxi Dress

OK. Let’s be real. This dress is more of an attempt to be comfortable on Casual Friday than it is an attempt to be fashionable. It’s that decision you make as you are staring at your closet on Friday morning wondering if you should wear pants or not. Clearly not pants in the form of a dress or skirt wins, especially in the summer. I did make some effort to be edgy by pairing it with this awesome military-style jacket. I like the mix of dressy and tough. The jacket lends itself to this kind of styling with its puckered shoulders and peplum waist. This isn’t the first time I’ve stretched this jacket’s use. Here I am wearing this jacket with a silk shirt to work.

Do you like mixing structured and feminine pieces?

Navigating casual Friday

For casual Friday at work (everyday), I like to turn to my Forever 21 maxi dress. It is amazingly comfortable, and it is also a great option for any Friday night plans that may come up. Wearing it with a cardi or cover up, to me, makes it work appropriate. Some may disagree, but my office is pretty casual. Some people wear jeans everyday. I choose to dress up during the week, but opt for something casual Friday, which is what the majority of people do. Everyone associates casual Friday with jeans. However, during the recent heat wave (99 degrees) we have been experiencing, jeans might not be the most comfortable option. So I am just curious, what can you get away with at your office? Is it just me, or are policies becoming more relaxed?

Grecian Goddess

I wanted to try reworking the way I wear my maxi dress. Here is the first look, which is more appropriate for work. This outfit is from the weekend. We went out to celebrate a friend’s birthday, and I felt both stylish and relaxed for the bar that we were at. It featured a live band in one room and club/dance music in the outdoor area. I got the idea to wear my scarf like this from Refinery 29’s 4 new ways to wear a scarf. I really liked the way it looked, and I realized that the long dress with the sandals kind of made it into a Grecian goddess look, hence the silly pose.

Also, some very exciting news, thanks to my sister who gave me a gift card to the mall for being one of her maids of honor, I was able to purchase the perfect pair of brown sandals for the summer. I am more than in love. The leather is so soft that they don’t hurt my feet even though they are 4 inch heels, something I never feel comfortable in. I believe they are still available here on the Nine West site. Thanks Maria!

Wear-to-work Maxi Dress

I love wearing my maxi dress because it’s comfortable and it’s one of those fail-proof outfits that always looks good, which is why I obviously wanted to wear it to work. However, most maxi dresses for summer fall into either the strapless or spaghetti strap category, which is a no-no for work. So to make it work appropriate I threw on my white blazer and beaded necklace. The dress is so flowy and light I felt like I was wearing pajamas all day, but I still felt as though I looked professional.

Work to Evening

I have seen a lot of bloggers wearing maxi dresses and skirts and I wanted to try it out for work. I really like how it looks with a jacket and scarf. The best part is that when it’s really cold in the office and its really hot outside I can take off some layers. It’s also a nice transition from work to going out. And apparently maxi dresses are really in for fall, so I am a season ahead of schedule. Points for being early.
