Lobster Shorts

I found these Lobster-print gems while visiting one of my favorite consignment shops — Avalon Exchange. They are perfect for a few of the trips I have scheduled this summer — first to Annapolis, MD and then to Charleston, SC. The shorts speak for themselves as far as what both cities have to offer. Great seafood and impeccable preppy style to match. They were only $6 after I used my store credit. I had been obsessing over lobster prints the last few summers. So glad I was patient! Above I styled them for a dressier dinner date and below is a more casual option for sight seeing.

The striped shirt and wide-leg pants were too perfect a match to not turn this into a nautically-themed outfit with my red scarf and gold hoop earrings. Surprisingly, though, the red scarf and gold earrings only make me slightly reminiscent of a gondolier. There are so many running around Lake Erie this time of year, you know.

Weekend wear: Nautical coordinates

I thought since it’s Friday I would share with you a more casual look. I was actually very excited that I was able to put together the red jacket and blue and white striped top. I couldn’t believe I had such a coordinated outfit in my closet. Most of my outfits are pieced together from a hodge-podge of really old clothes that I have held onto over the years and some newer purchases that get thrown in the mix resulting in a more shabby chic look. This is quite impressive. I think my wardrobe is movin’ on up. I give credit to my blog. It challenges me to make more intelligent decisions while shopping. You would think it would do the opposite, but as I learn more about fashion and shopping through reading other blogs, I have really been much more concerned with buying fewer pieces that I really love that I will want to wear a long time and not as many throw-away trends.

Check out that pretty tree blooming. It has been going crazy this past month. I love when it blooms. I picked out this outfit mainly to wear this scarf I found at a consignment shop over the weekend. The print is actually more equestrian than anything and reminds me of something from Ralph Lauren, except that it was $3!! When I added the red coat and the striped shirt I realized how over-the-top nautical it was. Maybe I went a little “overboard”, but I don’t wear this red coat enough and there are only so many cooler spring days left, hopefully.
