When I started planning out my winter capsule wardrobe this year, I thought it would be fun to challenge myself to incorporate my jean jacket. It’s a staple every other season of the year, why should winter be any different? My main concern was how to layer it under coats. Surprisingly it layers just fine under my wool cocoon coat from J.Crew. It must be layered over a thin sweater, of course, but that’s the beauty of it. It adds another layer to something that otherwise might be too thin to wear on chilly winter days, giving that item a new purpose. Do you wear jean jackets in the winter? How do you style yours?

Happy Tuesday! How is your week going so far? Did you enjoy the Super Bowl? I haven’t seen such a high-energy half time show in quite a long time. Shakira and J.Lo rocked it! Today, I’m featuring one of my winter capsule wardrobe staples: my black and white striped turtleneck. There is just something about black and white stripes that looks perfectly chic. This turtleneck looks great tucked into a pair of black high-waisted jeans and adds an interesting layer to sweaters and button downs for those colder days. This particular one is the lightweight tissue turtleneck from J.Crew and lives up to its name. What have you been wearing on repeat lately?

I’m back from vacation. If you couldn’t tell from the posts last week, I was in Charleston, SC. The past 9 days were spent putting my feet in the surf, reading really good books (go buy Gone Girl this second), dancing with a naked baby (my boyfriends’ nephew) and having long conversations while eating amazing food. It’s always a little hard to come back to reality after vacation, but I found myself homesick for my little apartment.
Anywho, let’s get on to what I wore. Although I am a hot mess when it comes to packing (at least 4-5 items were not even worn), I did get a lot of use out of these white jeans. These are the two looks I came up with. One involving stripes (of course) and one white on white with a floral print scarf. I felt dressy yet laid-back in both outfits.

This is the remix! Ok so here I took some elements I liked from this work outfit, the ruffle shirt and statement necklace, and turned it into a more casual look with flat sandals and a crisp jean skirt. I was going to wear shorts but I thought I’d mix it up with a denim skirt. I threw on the cardigan because the temps have been a little more brisk lately.
So, I just featured an outfit post with this army green shirt because I am using it for an outfit remix contest on Chictopia. The winner will have their look remixed in Teen Vogue. Based on how much I loved the first outfit I put together with this shirt, I figured it would be a good piece to play around with. And I figured Teen Vogue’s readers may want a fresh way to wear the Military trend that is so popular now. I really liked the way this outfit turned out. I kind of just threw it together and hoped for the best. The proportions and colors came together quite nice. The top is actually a dress, which I was proud of myself for trying.
