I’m officially home for Thanksgiving! Yay! I drove in Thursday and have been working from home this whole week. When I can’t take paid time off around the holidays working from home is the next best thing. It means I get a bonus weekend in Cleveland! Over the weekend, I made sure to squeeze in as much fun as possible. I went shopping with my mom and sister, had dinner with our friends and their two kids (where we played a rowdy game of pie face), and spent a lot of time snuggling my niece.

Beach Capsule Wardrobe

Every summer, I look forward to heading down south with my fiance and his family for a beach vacation. We’ve been going to the Isle of Palms right outside of Charleston for over 10 years, so I’ve sort of got my packing list down to a science. I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to create a mini capsule wardrobe with all of the essential outfits. We spend most of our time on the beach and at the beach house. We go out a few times throughout the trip, but most of our days and nights are spent in casual clothes at the house. With a washing and dry machine, these capsule items should easily last you for a 7-day beach trip, plus 2 travel days. The best part is that all of these pieces are interchangeable, so you can create a number of different outfits if you mix and match the pieces.

What I pack:

3 tops

2 layering pieces

3 bottoms

After we’ve squeezed as much beach fun out of the day as possible, we all reconvene at the house for a delicious homemade dinner and a card game. Most of my outfits are pretty casual, but I like to have a few nicer options just in case we go out for dinner one night or run into the city for lunch. I also bring layers to stay warm in the air conditioned house.

3 dresses

For my days spent flying to and from the beach, I usually wear a comfortable jersey dress and a jacket or cardigan. We usually go out for one really nice dinner, so I make sure to pack a formal dress and a day dress just in case my fiance and I decide to run downtown for a nice dinner or lunch.

3 cover ups

5 to 6 bathing suits (not pictured here)

I like to have a few different cover ups to get me through the week since I have a variety of bathing suits in different patterns and bright colors. Also, after a few days down at the beach, they start to look not fresh. Haha!

4 pairs of shoes

Not all shoes are pictured because my Jack Rogers go with every outfit, but I like to have sneakers just in case we go for a walk. And I live in my flip flops at the beach.

3 Ways to Wear White Jeans This Spring

It took me a while to get used to wearing white jeans before memorial day, but now they’ve become a spring staple. They instantly make any outfit look a little dressier, which is great now that I can wear jeans to work every day. They also go with just about every color. Paired with the right colors and textures, they’re like a little stepping stone between spring and summer. Here are a few ways I’m wearing my white jeans this spring.

Old Navy Jean Jacket (Similar) / Tommy Hilfiger Shirt (Similar) / Madewell Jeans / Madewell Mule / J.Crew Factory Necklace (Similar)

1. With a jean jacket. White jeans and a jean jacket are timeless. I dressed them up for work with this striped tunic. White jeans tend to accentuate my hips, so I try to wear them with a longer layer.

Target Shirt / Madewell Jeans / Madewell Mule / Similar Scarf

2. With a denim/chambray shirt. You’ll hear me complaining about this a lot now that it’s warmer out, but my office is currently an air conditioned tundra. I still need to wear sweaters and long sleeves to stay warm. Luckily this long sleeve denim shirt looks great with white jeans and is the perfect complement to the bright pop of color from this scarf.

Similar Navy Blazer / Gap Sweater (Similar) / Madewell Jeans / Everlane Shoes / J.Crew Factory Necklace

3. With a blue blazer. Navy blue and white are always great complements. I elevated the look even more for a day in the office with a dark loafer and a gray sweater. I think white and gray look so classy together.

Under $50 Maxi Dress for Spring

Hello! How is your week going? We’ve busy with wedding planning. We’re at the phase where we’re searching for a venue, which is fun but also stressful. There are so many little details to consider about each place and each one is different. And to make matters worse, our schedules don’t really line up this time of year. My fiancé is a coach for a high school spring sport, so most of his free time is occupied by that. I know whatever we decide will be beautiful. I just need to let the process unfold. Despite the craziness, I just had to pop in and share this dress with you! It’s less than $50, but looks so much more expensive. It has a great fit and the maxi style is so cute for spring, especially for those iffy weather days. I wore it with a jean jacket for a baby shower over the weekend and felt perfectly put together. This dress is not online, but I was able to find it in store at H&M.

Thanksgiving Outfit Ideas

I can’t believe it’s almost Thanksgiving. Soon we’ll be mashing the potatoes, slicing the turkey, and Reddi Whipping the pie while watching giant cartoon characters float through New York City on TV. Thanksgiving is starting to become one of my favorite holidays because of its simple premise: gathering for a good meal with the people you love most and being thankful. That’s it and I love it. In my opinion, there is no better way to be. I love celebrating and appreciating my gracious hosts by wearing a thoughtfully put together outfit befitting the occasion. To help make your holiday a special one, I’ve put together three outfit ideas from casual to dressy that will hopefully inspire your ensemble. Cheers to being grateful with the ones you love!

Outfit Idea #1: Dressy Top / Jeans / Pumps / Chunky Necklace
This is likely what I will be wearing since it’s pretty casual at my aunt’s house. It’s just relaxing on the couch and eating really good food all day. I love the idea of elevating a pair of jeans with a statement blouse like this one.

Outfit Idea #2: Chambray Top / Black Skirt / Loafers / Chunky Necklace
This is a good option if you’re going to someone’s house for Thanksgiving for the first time and you’re not sure of the dress code. It’s dressy but not overly so.

Outfit Idea 3: Plaid Scarf / Black Dress / Riding Boots
I love this look for a dressier dinner. You could easily wear this with black heels instead of riding boots if it’s really dressy.

A Good Sweater Blazer Can Update Your Work Look

Details: J.Crew Factory Sweater Blazer (Similar) / Banana Republic Factory Blouse (Similar) / Banana Republic Factory Leggings / Everlane Loafers

We just got back from Paris on Saturday and I’m admittedly still a little jet-lagged as I write this. Despite that fact, I’m excited to get back in the swing of things because Paris had such great style inspiration. Everywhere you go there are Parisians mastering the I’m-not-trying-but-look-amazing look. This outfit is definitely inspired by that philosophy. It’s a simple look yet it has interesting details.

The sweater blazer, which is my new favorite addition to my wardrobe, offers a modern and relaxed fit that instantly updates any work outfit. I especially like this version (which is unfortunately sold out, but I found a similar version) because it doesn’t have the button like some sweater blazers. I think that makes it look too similar to an actual blazer when the appeal of the sweater blazer is the looser fit. And I love the lapel because you can either turn up or down depending on what top you wear with it. Turned up, I think it looks especially sophisticated. It adds the necessary structure to the blazer, which really complements the relaxed fit. The blouse adds another element of interest with pleats that pop out of the collar and sleeves. And the color scheme is once again simple yet sophisticated. The menswear inspired loafers reinforce the look. I can see a lot more outfits like this in my future. What do you think? Are you inspired by Parisian style sensibilities?

My Favorite Purchases from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

Gibson Blouse, $45.90

Now that early access has ended and the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is open to the public, I thought I’d share my favorite purchases. Ever since I got rid of half of my fall/winter wardrobe last year, I’ve been wanting to slowly build it back up with timeless pieces. What I love about all three of these items is how versatile they are. They’re great for work or play, so I know I’ll get a lot of wear out of them. And I feel good about getting these high-quality brands on sale. What were your favorite purchases from the sale? What are hoping to buy during early access?
