I love a good jean jacket. I have for a long time. As you can see I’m still wearing the same one from high school. If you can comfortably avoid taking yourself too seriously at work, a jean jacket is a nice way to switch up your typical work wear. I like how it tames this bright pink pencil skirt and keeps me warm in our frigid office during the summer months. I’d love to hear about what you’ve been wearing lately.

There is something dark, moody and perfectly fallish about the color maroon, which is why this pencil skirt has become one of my staples lately. It pairs just as nicely with this plaid button down as it does with a dramatic sweater. It contrasts nicely against the other rich colors of fall: navy, emerald, gold and orange. And it goes with just about any shoe. I could add countless more pieces of this color to my wardrobe. Is there any particular item or color you are wearing a lot lately this fall?

Green and navy are an easy go to combination when you need an outfit fast as was the case yesterday morning when I had not laid out anything to wear for work the night before. Also, it wasn’t snowing yesterday, but I could have easily worn my riding boots with this outfit if that was the case. As it was the emerald jewel tone of this skirt was the perfect rich color for a fall day. I stuck with mostly navy otherwise to make the polka dots pop and I chose gold jewelry to go with the warm hues of this outfit. The brown loafers always make such a perfect statement with navy and green. What is your quick go-to outfit combination when you are running out the door?
Do you remember this skirt? I wore it a few style posts ago. My lovely college suite mate, Rosanna, texted me saying how much she loved it and was able to find it at her local TJ Maxx. A total win! I just had to share the way she styled it. I love the classic white button down, chunky necklace and bright shoes she paired it with. Isn’t she looking good in her fall work outfit? Another fashion success story!
Here is my summer to fall take on it:
Lady like looks are not only influenced by the long poofy skirts of the 40s and 50s, but also the long-sleeved billowy blouses and high-waisted wide-leg pants of the 70s. I am not wearing said pants here, but they would be an excellent compliment to this polka-dot bow-tie blouse, which is sheer by the way. And what is more lady like than a cardigan, pearls, and a pencil skirt. The cardigan was a gift from my sister that I unfortunately had to return because of a missing button, but instantly felt OK returning when I saw this coral version.

So every once and a while I have to dress like a big girl, and yesterday was one of those days. I can’t always wear poofy skirts and plaid button downs. Those things have never really screamed professional. So I dressed up my way, with a purple pencil skirt. Maybe it’s because I always loved the the purple teletubby, but I loved this skirt from the moment I saw it. I was going to tone it down with some gray, but then I remembered I had this blue shirt that I knew would be the perfect shade to compliment the purple.

Ok so I am off to see the beau this weekend. We will be soaking up the last rays of summer and attending a meet and great party for a wedding I am in next year. It’s a bigger wedding party so the bride wants everyone to get a chance to meet before the big day, which I think is a good idea. It carries the same idea of an engagement party, without all the formalities. That is 3 years in a row of bridesmaid duties, which I am more than happy to do. I am getting pretty good at this! Enjoy your weekend! Don’t those shoes look adorable on the girl in that photo? Kind of makes me want to steal my boyfriend’s saddle shoes.

This skirt is work appropriate for those of us in the creative industry. It is knee length so it’s not too revealing, and it adds that nice pop of color. It is only $15.80 at Forever 21 and is 57% linen, 25% rayon, 18% cotton, lining 100% polyester. It is dry clean only. I would take it in yellow or orange.
