How to Wear Riding Boots to Work

A faithful reader approached me about doing a post on how to wear riding boots to work. In my humble opinion, she could not have asked anyone better. I wear mine so much that you would think I was hiding a horse somewhere in my second floor, one bedroom apartment. If I was, his name would be Rusty. Just saying.

Look 1: Equestrian

This is probably the easiest way to use riding boots with an already existing work look. I usually wear this shift dress with black heels and a black cardigan. To make it work with these boots, I added pieces that carry the equestrian theme. Those pieces can be a tailored jacket or scarf — or any pieces that match the look and feel of your boots, but that can also be paired with a work look.

Look 2: Brights

Here is a way that you can wear your riding boots to work and incorporate another current trend for fall — brights. The tan of these boots goes well with blues and greens, but I would encourage you to experiment with different colors based on the specific shade of your riding boot. You never know.

Look 3: Plaid

A plaid skirt is a great middle-ground piece for work. It has that woodsy charm that goes really well with riding boots without looking too casual. I found this skirt at a consignment shop, and I am not sure of the brand. I would highly recommend looking for one at your local thrift or consignment shop. This seems to be one thing I see consistently. You may want to hem it though for fear of looking too much like Laura Ingalls.

Consignment Bright Blue Blazer

I found this great, bright blue blazer on one of my recent trips to Avalon Exchange. It will pair nicely with all of the graphic prints out right now for fall including polka dots. Once I decided to pair it with this gray American Apparel skirt — one of my most comfortable work pieces; perfect for a Monday — I knew I wanted to go cool with the rest of the colors. These black Nine West pumps create a bold look and thankfully my bright red lip, no effort make up today went right along with that theme.

Wear to Work Fall Trend: Jewel Tones

The boyfriend and I went to the farmer’s market today. Sad to say it was the first time I went all summer. A burger from one vendor plus lemonade from another made quite a tasty dinner while sitting on a grassy hill. My boyfriend took these photos afterwards and he said they look cute. So I think I am going to take his word for it. I got this skirt just recently from the Maxx. The jewel tone color will be great for fall paired with black tights and a sweater. I couldn’t wait that long to wear it so I styled it with this blue and white striped button down, brown sandals and chunky watch. What do you think? What styles for fall are you wearing now?

This should be an out take, but I think it is too funny. Someone is having a diva moment.

There has been a lot of talk lately about fall. Don’t get me wrong, I am on the fall train. I can’t wait for pumpkins, sweaters and falling leaves. However, this weekend I want to get the most out of the little bit of summer left. Have I eaten enough fresh strawberries? Have I read enough books in the shade of a tree? Have I worn enough dresses? Have I gone to enough farmer’s markets? Have I drunk enough Summer Shandy? These are things I am willing to get to the bottom of.
