The cargo vest was one of those trends that I didn’t really understand until I tried it. Am I supposed to dress it up or dress it down? Can I wear it with something else that’s sleeveless? Removing sleeves from something apparently has quite the disorienting effect on me. Now that I have one, the question is what doesn’t it look good with? Blouses, t-shirts, dresses — it can do it all. It has that off-duty but still pulled-together look that I love.
I scored my cargo vest at Target for $30 in the beginning of spring. I haven’t seen it since, but I did find this similar cargo vest at Macy’s, which is now on sale.

I was ready for fall on approximately July 28. Yeah — I’m obsessed! I have been on the lookout since then for anything fall themed. Something that has been on my fall/winter wardrobe wish list for a while are pattern sweaters. I was specifically looking for something like this southwestern print sweater.
When I saw this sweater while shopping Nordstrom’s Anniversary sale, I couldn’t help but be intrigued by the different take on the fall cardigan with its interesting patchwork and asymmetrical design. In this color, I can wear it casually with a flannel or to work with dress pants. Over the weekend, when we were experiencing unusually chilly temps, I decided to layer it over this great tunic that I also scored at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. Like I told my sister, she can give me a Nordstrom Gift Card for my birthday every year if she’d like. 🙂
The tunic is longer so it can be worn over leggings and has a nice drape to it. I didn’t realize how see through it was. I probably wont wear a tank top underneath it next time since it’s so noticeable.
This sweater with any top, skinny jeans or dress pants and boots is a great fall go-to!
I bought this dress to wear to a wedding we had over the summer in New York City. I didn’t have a chance to take pictures until just this past weekend when we went to the symphony to hear Carmina Burana. An awesome show if you ever get the chance to go.
When I was a looking for a dress for the wedding, I didn’t want to spend a lot so I went to Avalon Exchange, a consignment store in Squirrel Hill. I found this no-name dress there for $15! Because the dress was so cheap I splurged a little on the earrings. I usually don’t spend a lot on jewelry, but I knew these would be worn over and over again. The shoes were a different story. I typically like to spend a lot on shoes so I know my feet will be comfortable day in and day out. However, for weddings I like to wear cheap shoes. I am a pretty aggressive dancer at weddings and my shoes will be lucky if they last the night.
I was pretty happy with the outfit I ended up with for just about $60. It has already proven its staying power in my closet. Have you found any great special occasion dresses for a deal lately? Any special occasions coming up?

I thought since it’s Friday I would share with you a more casual look. I was actually very excited that I was able to put together the red jacket and blue and white striped top. I couldn’t believe I had such a coordinated outfit in my closet. Most of my outfits are pieced together from a hodge-podge of really old clothes that I have held onto over the years and some newer purchases that get thrown in the mix resulting in a more shabby chic look. This is quite impressive. I think my wardrobe is movin’ on up. I give credit to my blog. It challenges me to make more intelligent decisions while shopping. You would think it would do the opposite, but as I learn more about fashion and shopping through reading other blogs, I have really been much more concerned with buying fewer pieces that I really love that I will want to wear a long time and not as many throw-away trends.
